Liveaboard Dockage in Florida: Rules, Costs, and What to Know
By Tal Fox Amit · Jun 12, 2026 · 4 min read
Thinking about living aboard in South Florida? Here's how liveaboard docks, rules, and costs actually work.
Living aboard is one of the most rewarding ways to enjoy South Florida, but liveaboard rules vary by dock, city, and HOA, so the key is finding a dock that genuinely allows it.
Not every dock allows liveaboards
Many private docks and municipalities restrict overnight living aboard. Before you commit, confirm in writing that the dock is liveaboard-friendly. FoxStays verifies each property's rules so you don't get a surprise at the seawall.
What you'll want in a liveaboard dock
When the boat is home, the details matter more. Look for reliable shore power, fresh water, secure parking, and easy access, plus nearby provisioning and pump-out.
- Shore power (30A/50A), metered or included
- Fresh water and, ideally, pump-out access
- Secure parking and gated or camera access
- Liveaboard explicitly permitted by the owner and municipality
Costs and terms
Liveaboard dockage is usually billed monthly or seasonally, which lowers your effective nightly rate. Expect the per-foot dockage rate plus any metered utilities. Tell us your vessel and timeline and we'll match you with verified liveaboard docks.
